Borderlands 3 System Requirements

The Borderlands series is one of those franchises that came out of nowhere. Ever since 2K and Gearbox brought us the very first game, it earned a big fan base almost immediately. Its pop-culture based comedy, constant use of memes, humorous action, and ALL the weapons present in the game really do add up to the appeal. However, you’ll want to ensure your system can handle the game, so we have prepared a Borderlands 3 System Requirements guide.

The third numbered entry in the franchise is the most ambitious yet, it has more explosions, more characters, more missions, and most importantly, MORE WEAPONS. This title has a crazy amount of weapons, and with that comes even more mayhem than ever before. As usual, you’ll play as one of the mercenaries called Vault Hunters in a crazy alien planet. All the land is inhabited by psychos and monsters, but mostly funny characters.

Sure, when there are this much chaos and destruction on screen most of the time, you’ll want to enjoy it to its fullest. And to do that, you need to have a computer capable of running this game nicely. Of course, there’s always the possibility to play on consoles, but you’re here because you know that PC gaming is the best way to enjoy a game. So, you likely already have your own gaming PC, but is it enough to play Borderlands 3 in the Highest settings? Do you have everything you need to enjoy Borderlands 3 to its fullest? Or maybe it is time for renewal to your computer.

Gearbox Software published the requirements days before the release of the game, and they were pretty accessible, especially if you were looking to play at a minimum. But things get a bit more expensive if you want to play it on the highest, settings. Luckily, as technology advances, there are newer, more powerful components, and this makes the older, but still very capable, pieces less expensive. This is always great news when you have to upgrade your computer.

So, let’s start discussing Borderlands 3 System Requirements and what you’re going to need if you want to play all the madness of Borderlands 3:

Basic or minimum requirements:

As we mentioned before, this game seems to be well optimized, as it doesn’t really ask for much to play on the minimum settings. But we won’t limit ourselves to the requirements list posted by gearbox in the early days, as we’ll add the AMD alternative to this.

CPU: Intel i5-3570 / AMD FX-8350 (4 GH

While it can be a bit more expensive, we recommend going for the Intel processor here. Even though on paper the AMD FX-8350 is stronger and better for practical uses, here we are talking about gaming. And it certainly isn’t great for this. It also has an issue with handling the heat. But on the brighter side, it’s an excellent processor for practical uses, so if you’re looking to game and get some work done, it’s great for this.

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7970 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

These are fairly basic GPU, you can find an equivalent and much better on any modern gaming laptop. And if you’re building your computer, it’s the same thing, it won’t cost you much, and you’ll be able to play at the minimum settings here. There are tons of bullets and effects on screen at most times in this game.

Luckily there are plenty of in-game graphics settings to tweak to get the best results possible. So, you have plenty of options to choose from, and you’ll be ready to go, and in the current market, you can find these or their equivalent at a great price.

RAM: 6GB

While we usually recommend to never go for less than 8 GB of RAM on any computer you want to use for gaming, you’ll just need 6 GB to play this game at a minimum. This is probably the cheaper and more accessible part of all these requirements, so you can save some money here. Most gaming laptops are packing at least 8 GB of RAM anyway, so you’re clear if you prefer gaming o laptops.

And if you’re buying a tower PC, it’s pretty much the same. You won’t find any gaming computer with less than 8 GB of RAM out there in this day and age.

Available Storage: 75 GB

This is where you won’t be able to save some money, not even if you want to play it at the bare minimum settings. As you know, games always need the same storage space. But don’t worry, if your PC isn’t ready for this, there are some excellent HDDs at an incredibly affordable price.

Borderlands 3 Recommended requirements

Of course, if you can afford it, you can play at the top settings, or at least at the recommended, this game still won’t ask you for top-of-the-line components. It’s actually a pretty affordable game, to put it in some way.

You can play this game with a higher-end computer if you want some even better results but here we are going to list what’s recommended. So, what do you need for this?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i7-4770

Here you can see that a better CPU will also help you out a lot with the performance. but even though it’s recommended an i7 and a Ryzen, you can see that they are not the newest or most powerful ones. If you go for a stronger one, you are definitely going to get even better results.

GPU: AMD Radeon 5 2600 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060

Once again, it asks for a much better GPU for better performance, but if you can go for a newer or more powerful one, it’s better to go for it. It requires a nice GPU as it has many on-screen effects at the same time, and the special effects use a lot of resources. If you don’t want any FPS drops, and of course you don’t, you’ll need a great GPU.

RAM: 16GB

Yes, to run it at recommended settings it needs more than twice the amount it asks to play the minimum. It’s not incredibly well optimized, but thankfully the game offers up a lot of settings to customize the visual options. But it’s not to say that this game is wrongly made, it also just shows how much you can change the visual configurations on the game depending on your computer.

Available Storage: 75GB

As mentioned before, this won’t change no matter the in-game settings or the performance.  However, it can really enhance your performance if you use an SSD instead of an HDD. Using an SSD is better for loading times as they offer way faster data transfer when compared to an HDD. No matter how fast and HDD may be, SSDs are faster, more compact, and even more reliable. The only downside for this is that they are expensive and usually come in smaller capacities than HDDs.

Borderlands 3 System Requirements Extras

While you can play any game in pretty much any monitor, It’s always better to have a nice, great looking monitor. Since it has plenty of on-screen effects and enemies, it’s recommended that you play on a great display. And if you are looking for the best performance, sometimes having high FPS isn’t everything, you’ll want high refresh rates too.

You should look for a great display with about 90Hz or more, and FHD is a must, even if you’ll be playing the game at 720p, having a higher definition display will make it look better, even if you’re not using it to its fullest. And since it is such a colorful game, nice color accuracy and vibrant colors are important when looking for a display.

This game is an FPS with some elements of RPG, so you’ll need nice controllers. But since you’re playing on PC it’s great to have a wide array of different controllers to choose from. The go-to option for many PC users is to pick mouse and keyboard controls. Thankfully they are more and more accessible by the day.

Set up your battle station with style and you’re ready to play this game. The good news is that if you meet the requirements to play Borderlands 3, then you can play every other game in the series. And you can get the Handsome Jack collection to get things faster. Remember though, this game is not available on Steam, you’ll have to buy it through the Epic Game Store.
